Indonesian glass paintings showcased in Hanoi

NDO – Nearly 70 Indonesian tribal art paintings on glass are on show at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi

The exhibits, presented in bright colours, focus on topics of Indonesian daily life, folk arts, rituals and tradition, Islam and Indonesian history, Mahabharata and Ramayana epics.

The paintings were donated to the museum in 2006 by Indonesian master of Pencak Silat O’ong Maryono (1953-2013) and his Italian wife Rosalia Sciortino, who share the love for Indonesian art of glass paintings.

Speaking at the event, VME Director Vo Quang Trong conveyed his sincere thanks to Doctor Rosalia Sciortino and her late husband for their donations.

He also expressed his hope that the exhibition would bring to the visitors interesting explorations on the history, culture and society of Indonesia.

The exhibition is part of a series of displays on Southeast Asian cultures to help Vietnamese people learn more about their neighbours in the region.
